The final season for a few of my favorite TV shows starts in January 2022.
This is Us
The Pearson family will return for its 6th and final season next month. Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, and Susan Kelechi Watson will return to tug at our heartstrings one more time.
After showing us the past, present, and future of this family, This is Us still leaves us with quite a few mysteries about some of the characters.
- Who is Kate marrying? And what happened between her and Toby?
- What does the future hold for Deja and the Pearson girls?
- Who is Kevin married to (let’s hope it’s to Madison)?
If you haven’t watched the NBC series, This is Us, you have missed some great television. The story never fails to touch the heart with excellent writing by Dan Fogelman (The Guilt Trip & Crazy, Stupid Love) and directed by Ken Olin (Thirty Something).
It’s All About Family
I started to rewatch seasons 4 and 5 to remind myself where they left off, but now I think I should start over from the first episode. So, join me as I start watching This is Us. It is available to watch on NBC, Peacock, and Hulu.
This is Us is the story of the makings of a family. But it is unlike any other television show about a family that you have ever seen.
The Pearsons’ story is not a linear one. Instead, there are stories within stories, interweaving the lives of this family in the past, present, and future. Parents, grandparents, friends… these are the people who make us who we are, whether we know it or not.
“For all the ones we leave
And we believe
Our lives become
The stories that we weave”
– from the Broadway musical, Once on This Island
Because the series flows from one time period to the next, you won’t want to skip any episodes or watch them out of order.
Meet the Pearsons
Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia), a nice guy from a working-class background who falls in love and marries and a rich girl, Rebecca Malone (Mandy Moore). Yes. There’s a ‘meet cute‘ for Jack and Rebecca, but the first episode starts on Jack’s 38th birthday and the birth of their triplets.
You will also meet a highly successful, wealthy black man named Randall (Sterling K. Brown) who has been searching for his birth father; a morbidly obese young woman named Kate who leaves ‘do not eat‘ post-it notes for herself on snacks in her refrigerator. And last, but certainly not least, meet Kevin, the ridiculously handsome actor and star of the popular (fictitious)TV series, The Manny.
Is it a coincidence that each of these people shares a birth date?
If I tell you any more, it will completely spoil the surprise. Not sure what the expiration date is on spoiler alerts, but you’ll find out in the next post.
