Val Kilmer: Actor
Val attended the prestigious Julliard School along with classmates, Kevin Bacon and Sean Penn. He was one of the youngest students ever accepted into its acting program.
Val made his Broadway debut in Slab Boys in 1983. In Hollywood, his California blonde good looks lead him to his early roles in teen comedies like Top Secret and Real Genius. Then came his standout role as Iceman in the 1980s blockbuster Top Gun. Next, he was perfect as the rock-icon, Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991)
And my favorites are his incredible portrayal of the quick-witted and quick-drawing gunman Doc Holliday in the western Tombstone. I even named my dog Huckleberry.
He was also cast in major movie roles like the Caped Crusader in Batman Forever. But he still managed to develop a reputation for marching to the beat of his own drum with roles as diverse as Chris Shiherlis in Heat, Ray Levoi in Thunderheart, Simon Templar in The Saint, The Salton Sea, and Perry in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Whatever Happened to Val Kilmer ?
While preparing for his role in the one-man show, Twain Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer. Even though he is now in remission, he had to have a tracheotomy to breathe. This procedure affects his voice and ability to be clearly understood.
Kilmer wrote about his experience with cancer and treatment in his New York Times bestselling autobiography; I’m Your Huckleberry.
