What is Galentine’s Day?

Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies.” – Leslie Knope

Created in 2010 by Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope of Parks and recreation, Galentine’s Day is a day for you and your best friends to get together and enjoy some stress free fun on February 13.

Although this year may look a little different with COVID – 19 still posing a major risk, there are many ways for you to connect with your friends and family safely without sacrificing fun. Here are some tips on hosting a fun and safe chick flick watch party for you and your besties.

First things first… What’s a Watch Party?

If you don’t already know, a watch party is where you and your friends can stream movies, shows, and videos at the same time remotely. Most streaming providers have this feature for you to use right on their site or, you can use a browser extension to make set up easier. Disney+ has an option for setting up a watch party.

Make sure that everyone is familiar with this setup prior to starting your watch party to avoid any technical hiccups.

Now we can get into the fun part of the night!

Load Up on Drinks and Snacks

Next, you’re going to need your favorite snacks and (adult) beverages. A fun way to make everyone feel together even though you’re apart is to coordinate which types of food and drink you’re going to have. For the snacks, assign each person a category!

One friend can choose the chocolate or even opt for a selection of different flavors of popcorn!  This will allow for maximum participation as well as allow you to try some new things you may not have chosen yourself.

If you enjoy beer, or wine, or other adult beverages, get creative with and make a special themed cocktail. Consider having your favorite alcohol delivered to everyone as a gift. If you’re feeling extra festive, you can send along a recipe for them to create a holiday-themed cocktail with the ingredients as well!

Remember, calories do not count on Galentine’s Day.

Decide What to Watch

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to movies. Sometimes deciding what to watch with a group of people can be difficult. There are a plethora of chick flicks out there available for streaming.

We have all been there. Sitting on the couch, spending two hours choosing a show or movie to watch, and by the time you choose, it is time for bed. A fun way to avoid this is to make an online poll.

Have everyone pick one or two options and then give them a chance to vote on their top choices. This allows for everyone’s input but takes away the pressure of making a decision.

Enjoy!

With all the craziness in the world, it is important to take a step back and breathe. COVID – 19 is still a risk, but that does not mean you can’t still have fun and stay safe. The whole point of Galentine’s Day is to relax and enjoy yourselves.

Put on your PJs, pour yourself a nice glass of wine, put on your favorite movie with your favorite friends, and have a blast. There are no rules!

What are your favorite Galentine’s Day movies?
