Award Season Starts With The 2011 Golden Globe Nominations

This marks the official beginning of Award Season! Soon this movie or that will considered an “Oscar Hopeful” and every actor and actress will start shopping for their award show outfits. The 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards were announced today, with The King’s Speech, The Social Network and The Fighter getting multiple nominations.

It is good to see nominations for my favorite movies, Inception, The Social Network and RED; as well as TV shows that I love like Mad Men and Modern Family. I am torn between Sofia Vergara in  Modern Family and Jane Lynch in Glee. Both of them are the funniest things in their shows.

There were also nominations for two mini-series you may have missed. Luther, starring Idris Elba which played on BBC America was a gritty British crime drama where a police detective developed an interesting relationship with a psychopathic killer. Luther also has the added benefit of seeing  Idris Elba speaking in his real British accent…yummy!

The other mini-series, The Pillars of the Earth is based on Ken Follett’s epic novel about a medieval priest’s efforts t build a cathedral. I loved the book and the mini-series was a wonderful adaptation.

With the Golden Globe nominations out, I see a lot of movie watching and movie reviewing in my future. Which movies have you seen? What do you think of the Golden Globe nominations?
