After recently returning from my ‘vicarious vacation’ to France, I was met by a very unseasonal rain storm here in Dallas. Trust me, rain in the summer in Texas is like when people say “that will happen when pigs fly“. In Dallas we say ‘oh yeah, that will happen during a thunder storm in June‘. So, I am going to the theater for a movie marathon. First on my list:
The Proposal
Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds star in the romantic comedy The Proposal. The plot of the movie is that Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock), a high powered publishing executive is the total boss from hell, who makes life miserable for her assistant Andrew could be deported to Canada. But then we would’nt have this cute little romantic comedy. Sandra Bullock is funny and she has some really good chemistry with Ryan Reynolds. Instead of Will you marry me? I had a few other questions about The Proposal. beware the spoilers!
To avoid being deported to Canada she decides to marry her assistant. He agrees to go along with her scheme in return for a promotion to editor. [Question #1] If she is willing to cheat the Immigration Dept., why would she keep her word to you? I don’t know…just wonderin’. In order to convince the Immigration Dept. agent that they are a real couple, she goes with Andrew to his grandmother’s 90th birthday party. So off they go to Alaska to visit his family. (No this doesn’t count as a ‘vicarious vacation’ because I hate cold weather).
North to Alaska with Ryan Reynolds
In Alaska–well what do you know? Poor Andrew isn’t poor after all. In fact, he is rich. I mean JFK rich! [Question #2] If you have that much money, why are you putting up with all her crap at work? Make daddy but the company and she can get your Starbucks. But they continue the farce and trick his family into believing that they are really engaged. There is some family drama between Andrew and his dad (Craig T. Nelson), but the saucy granny, played by Betty White provides some of the funnier lines in the movie.
Just so I don’t completely ruin the movie for you, she sleeps in the bed, he sleep on the floor. (Which really doesn’t make since to me. Its his house. She should sleep on the floor) They accidentally see each other naked…more stuff happens… they sing… they fall in love. The End. Don’t get me wrong I liked The Proposal. It was a cute romantic comedy and I like Sandra Bullock.
