Welcome to Just Chick Flicks
Clarabela loves movies, especially the old classic films. Movies starring great actresses like Kathryn Hepburn, Bette Davis, Barbara Streisand. Romantic comedies with Meg Ryan or Sandra Bullock. You name it. I love movies, especially the Chick Flick movies. Clarabela started this blog a little over a year ago to express that love and share that love of movies. The topic is generally ‘chick flicks’, but as you will see, Just Chick Flicks uses a very broad definition of that term. Not only will you get a taste of your favorite romantic comedies, but you will get a hefty dose of the classics, hunks (hello, Hugh Jackman!),action chick flick and yes, even Star Trek movies. (What, you didn’t know Star Trek movies are chick flicks? Oh yes they are!)
Why Chick Flicks?
Clarabela wants to redefine the term ‘chick flick‘ to mean not only movies that feature women in a positive way, but also movie that appeal to women. Just Chick Flicks explores, discusses and reviews the movies women love and even some that we hate. There are movies that touch your heart and appeal to your emotions, movies that focus on women’s issues, movies that help women have a better self images and movies that entertain us and make us laugh, cry and think.
Yes, sometimes even sci-fi and Kung Fu movies. The definition is limitless. This is the place for movies that women love. The romantic comedies, the tear-jerker, the fairytale fantasies, the movie that stars a gorgeous man. All them in one place. And that’s what Just Chick Flicks explores, the world of the CHICK FLICK!
Chick Flicks Starter Kit
Classic Chick Flicks 101: A list of 25 Classic Chick flicks, including The Philadelphia Story, Sabrina and All About Eve.
31 Saddest Chick Flicks: In honor of the many tears I’ve cried at movies, here is a list of some of the saddest chick flicks ever. Which movies bring a tear to your eyes?
Why I Love The Princess Bride: It’s the perfect Chick Flick. Why? Because it’s about true love. ‘Do you think that happens every day?’
Why Are Women So Fascinated By Vampires?: When did vampires become the tragic romantic hero? How did they become these undead hotties that are taking over Hollywood?
Confessions of a Closet Star Trek Fan: No, I don’t wear the pointy ears, have a USS Enterprise uniform, nor can I do that “Live Long & Prosper” Vulcan thing with my fingers. But I do like Star Trek.
Chick Flicks: Only Pretty Girls Need Apply: A review of Penelope, starring Christina Ricci and James McAvoy. This is a very cute romantic movie that has some interesting things to say about beauty and how we can find it in ourselves.
The Ugly Truth About Dating: He’s Just Not That Into You: From childhood we are told that if a guy ignores you, is mean to you, treats you badly, doesn’t call you when he says he will, or in any other way acts like a real jerk–Well, it’s obvious, he likes you.
Whatever Happened to All the Rugged Men? That question was answered after I saw the movie Australia, starring the oh sooooo rugged Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. Jackman, who was chosen as People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, redefines rugged manliness as the character “The Drover” in this Australian Chick Flick directed by Baz Luhrman.
Why You Should Watch Mad Men: If you have not seen this incredible award-winning show on AMC, here are a recap of season 4 so you can catch up with Don Draper and the office politics at Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce.

I saw a link to this blog on LAMB and followed it. I see some interesting topics I will need to read when I get the chance.
It looks like you take suggestions from others on movies that you might want to feature. I looked around a bit and did not see a reference to the movie Whale Rider (2002). If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it. If you are interested, I have a recommendation I wrote for it here (no spoilers):

I think I really am a girl inside. I like most movies but chick flicks are particularly fun to watch given they’re such rich emotional experiences, and I seem to be fairly in touch with my emotions. Please don’t tell anyone I said that…

Hi Clarabela,
Thanks for the reply about James Bond January. I think it’s a particularly interesting set of films for examining the Bond girls, and more generally, the girls in the films…
On one hand, the original films are rife with sexism but it’s surprising how much James Bond relies on strong females!! Definitely an interesting topic. Glad to have you on board!
Maybe not for chick flicks…. but…
Looking to get as many movie bloggers as possible involved in James Bond January. If those films are your bag, more info on the following post.

If it’s not your thing a re-blog or forwarding of the link would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time!

I’m so glad I found your blog! I love old movies, romantic comedies and great movies in general! Found you on Lady Bloggers! Looking forward to reading more!
I absolutely love your blog and I love chick flicks!
I wanted to know if I could interest you in a guest post on the greatest chick flicks for college girls. In college, I lived with a ton of girls and we would have a movie night every Sunday. It was so fun to curl up with all the ladies (no boys allowed), make a bucket of popcorn, and prepare to laugh, cry, and experience all the other wonderful emotions that great films elicit.
