My Predictions for This Year’s Oscar Winners (and Who I Want to Win)

Tonight is the BIG night for the movie industry-Oscar night. It’s a BIG night for me and my gal pals too. It is our annual Oscar party. The time when we can hang out and eat horribly unhealthy food, talk about how ugly that dress is and how good  Brad and Angelina look together. Think of it as our version of a Girl’s Night Out Superbowl Party.

This has been a big year for  The Artist, Octavia Spencer, Alexander Payne and (finally) for Viola Davis. But who will take home the ‘golden boy’ tonight? Here are my predictions for who will probably win and who I want to win. What are your thoughts on tonight’s Academy Awards?

Best Picture

Who Will Win: The Artist

Who I Want to Win:  The Help or  Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Actor in a Leading Role

Who Will Win: Jean Dujardin in The Artist

Who I Want to Win:  George Clooney in The Descendants

Actor in a Supporting Role

Who Will Win: Christopher Plummer in Beginners

Who I Want to Win:  Max von Sydow in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Actress in a Leading Role

Who I Want to Win and Who will Win: Viola Davis in The Help  This is Viola’s year. Let’s hope Hollywood producers start lining up to offer her bigger and better roles.

Actress in a Supporting Role

Who I Want to Win and Who will Win: Octavia Spencer in The Help  Octavia has already won the Golden Globe, the SAG, the BAFTA and a ton of other awards for her role as the sassy maid in The Help. I hope the Academy follows suit.

Cinematography

Who will Win: The Tree of Life –  Emmanuel Lubezki I didn’t understand one thing about this movie, but I have to admit that the cinematography was stunning.

Who I Want to Win:  Hugo – Robert Richardson

Costume Design

Who will Win: The Artist – Mark Bridges

Who I Want to Win:  Jane Eyre –  Michael O’Connor

Directing

Who will Win: The Artist – Michel Hazanavicius He won the Directors Guild Award. I guess that seals it!

Who I Want to Win:  Hugo – Martin Scorsese  This is the man who directed Raging Bull and Good Fellas, then he brings to life this wonderful children’s story. That take skills!

Who will Win: The Descendants – Screenplay by Alexander Payne and Nat Faxon & Jim Rash

Who I Want to Win: Hugo –  Screenplay by John Logan

Writing (Original Screenplay)

Who will Win:  The Artist – Written by Michel Hazanavicius
