TNT: Monday Night is Ladies Night

in Television

Kyra Sedgwick, will star in the new season of  The Closer, tonight on TNT. If you have not seen Chief Brenda Lee Johnson get a confession out of a murder, you are in for a treat.  Brenda Lee is a southern girl, with a very southern accent in charge of a squad of men who are not too happy to have a woman in charge. Sedgwick is wonderful in her role as the determined lady detective in charge of the Priority Homicide Division of the Las Angeles Police Department.

Rizzoli & Isles

Based on the best-selling novels by Tess Gerritsen, Rizzoli & Isles stars Angie Harmon (Law & Order) as Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as medical examiner Maura Isles. Rizzoli is a tough cop, while Isles is always dressed in designer clothes. It sounds good. Opposites always provide tension and opportunities for good plots. The show airs tonight. I will post a review in a few days.

Who Is In Charge of Their Programing?

TNT is my TV network of choice these days. They seem to have cornered the market on the crime-comedy genre. Except for an hour on Sunday nights for Mad Men, I  watch quite a few shows on TNT. These are a few of my favorites:  Jada Pinkett-Smith stars as the head-strong nurse on Hawthorne.  Timothy Hutton heads a crew of Robin Hood-like thieves on Leverage. A show which reminds me a lot of Oceans Eleven. I just started watching Bones. After watching a few episodes, I had to go to HULU to watch the older shows. Now I am hooked. Bones, based on the crime novels by Kathy Reichs stars Emily Deschanel (yes, she is Zooey’s sister) and David Boreanaz.

The USA network has a new original series, Covert Affairs, starring Piper Perebo as an undercover CIA Agent. Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) and (Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) also star. White Collar may not technically be a chick flick, but you know me…if there is a hot guy, it qualifies.  Take a look at  gorgeous Matt Bomer and tell me I am right.

There is no shortage of reality TV showing women  behaving badly or kicking and screaming over some man or the chance at a bigger wedding cake. What I like about the TV shows on TNT, is that they feature smart and capable women. Does that make TNT the Chick Flicks Network.

What do you think? Have you watched The Closer?

I like the line-up! Still way behind on The Closer though but it’s good.
